"Pimp My Web" is a reference to the poplular TV show "Pimp My Ride", starring rapper Xzibit. People submit requests to have their old, beatup, busted wrecks turned into the hottest wheels on the street... in other words, to have "their ride pimped." The lessons below are all about the same thing. Do you feel like you're missing out on the latest web tricks and tools? Lesson One is all about subscribing to blog content via RSS. What does that mean? Well, take the lesson! Seriously, if you're reading this blog or any other blog, and you just come everyday and click around the website waiting for me to update, there's a better way. "But Charlie," you say, "You're working hard on updating your format. Don't you want us to click around?" Of course I do, but not for my blog posts. Those you can get via RSS. I'll have other stuff for you to see here soon, so don't worry about me and my formatting efforts. We'll be just fine.

Lesson Two is the second lesson, hence the name. We thought of naming it something else, but then what would I have done with this fun "Lesson Two" neon title? Lesson Two is so del.icio.us you can almost taste it. No, seriously, its about integrating del.icio.us, one of our investments at Union Square Ventures, into your Firefox browser. Not using Firefox?? Do you use call waiting? How about electricity? Has that caught up to you yet? Are you still trying to get broadband on that abacus? Its 2005. Download Firefox. Sign up for del.icio.us and start tagging. If you haven't heard of tagging. Tagging, yes... the tagging that EVERYONE's talking about. Now you can tag, too. Don't be the only one not tagging. All the cool kids are don't it. Don't worry, we won't tell your parents.


Lesson Three is not the final lesson, but its the last one for now. There will be more. This one combines your Jedi-level RSS skills with your intimate knowledge of del.icio.us tags (steamy!) to come together to form... Voltron! Ok, maybe not, but it will certainly take you up a notch to a new level of collaboration and discovery. Just click the neon title. You'll see!

Pimp My Web!! (Beta)

You have have been wondering about the tabs that appeared recently on my banner at the time--especially the peculiar "Pimp My Web" tab.  Well, wonder no more, because the Pimp My Web section of this blog is now functional, at least in Beta, anyway.  (We've wondered at Union Square Ventures why anyone would ever remove the "Beta" tag from a product.  Why would you ever say anything is done?  There's always room for improvement.  Shouldn't you always be working on something to make it better and soliciting audience feedback?)

The point of Pimp My Web is simple.  I'll be posting screencasts here on how to get the most out of your online experience... mostly for more novice users.  It will be the kind of site you e-mail to your mom to show her how to set up del.icio.us or maybe to view yourself before you set up del.icio.us on your girlfriend's computer and make her think you're smarter than you really are.  Starting a new blog?  Send folks here so they can learn how to use your RSS feed in Lesson One. 

These screencasts are just a start.  Two other things I use are the universal IM client, Trillian, and Linkedin.  Got other suggestions for future screencasts?  How about podcasting?  Drop a comment and let me know what every webhead needs to know at a minimum.
